Tessetto help
Tessetto sells memberships in your Shopify store: monthly, yearly or a prepaid term, bought in Shopify's own checkout. When a member pays, Tessetto turns on what the membership gives: member prices, free or cheaper shipping, members-only products and pages, early access and, on Pro, monthly store credit. When the membership is cancelled, refunded, runs out or a final payment fails, it turns all of it off again by itself and writes the change in the member's activity log. This page covers setup, every page and setting of the app, the questions merchants ask most, and what to do when something looks wrong.
What you need
- For recurring memberships (monthly or yearly, renewing by themselves): a payment provider that supports subscriptions (Shopify Payments, PayPal Express, Authorize.net, Adyen or Stripe).
- For prepaid memberships (1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 months, paid once): any payment provider.
- An Online Store 2.0 theme (Shopify's free themes are), so you can add Tessetto's blocks.
- Shopify's customer accounts (Settings > Customer accounts), where members manage their membership.
The Home page checks each of these when you open the app and says exactly what to do if something is missing. Until the payment provider allows recurring plans, they are greyed out with the reason, and prepaid memberships still work.
Getting started
- Choose a plan. Starter or Pro, each with a 14-day free trial. Shopify bills it on your Shopify invoice.
- Pick a template on Home: Perk club (member prices and free shipping), Members-only access (locked products and pages), or on Pro Fee becomes store credit. Tessetto creates the membership product as a draft, with its tiers, ways to pay, member prices and checkout lock. Change any of it on the Programs page.
- Add the blocks to your theme. Home links you straight into Shopify's theme editor for each block (the plan picker on the membership product, member prices, members-only content) and checks they are placed. In the theme editor, each block can show its member and its visitor version, so you see both before going live.
- Try it. Give yourself the test membership (one per store, on every plan, kept out of your counts) and check your perks, the locked products and your member page in the customer account.
- Go live. Make the membership product active in Shopify when you are ready. Tessetto never publishes it for you.
How memberships work
- Programs and tiers. A program is one membership product. Each tier (for example Silver and Gold) has its own perks, its own member tag and one or more ways to pay: monthly, yearly, or a prepaid term.
- Starting. A membership starts when its first order is paid, online or at your point of sale. The member gets the tier's tags (by default "member" and "member-" plus the tier name) and their perks at once.
- Prepaid terms. Buying the same membership again extends it from its current end date, so no paid days are lost.
- Renewals. Tessetto bills each recurring membership through Shopify on its renewal date, using the payment method the member saved at checkout, and never bills the same period twice.
- Failed payments. Tessetto retries (3 times, 3 days apart, unless you change it), and emails the member what happens next with Shopify's link to update their card. The member keeps access during the grace period. After the last retry and the grace period, the membership ends.
- Ending. A membership ends when it is cancelled (by the member or by you), when its paid-through date passes, after the last failed retry, after a full refund or cancellation of its latest order (a setting, on by default), or when the customer is deleted. Ending removes the tags; member prices, the checkout lock and members-only content all stop at the same moment. Partial refunds change nothing and are logged.
- Tags changed by hand. Once a day, and whenever a customer is changed in Shopify, Tessetto compares members' tags with their memberships. A member tag removed by hand from an active member is put back and logged: use End membership on the member's page to end access. A member tag added by hand to someone without a membership is left alone and listed on the Members page under "Tagged without a membership".
Perks, and exactly what they do
- Member prices: a percentage off chosen products, collections or the whole store, per tier, applied automatically in the cart. It combines with discount codes and other discounts if you allow it in Shopify's discount settings. Members also get member prices on the rest of the order they join with (a setting, on by default).
- Free or cheaper shipping: free or a percentage off, optionally above an order minimum, per tier.
- Members-only products and variants: anyone without the membership is stopped at checkout with "Sign in with your membership email to buy this", even from a direct link or an old cart. Buyers who have the membership in the same cart can buy them (a setting, on by default). The product page itself stays visible: product information on Shopify is public. You can choose to hide each product from your store's search and from search engines; collection pages still list it, so put members-only products in a collection that is not in your menus.
- Early access: a product is members-only until the date and time you set, then opens to everyone within 5 minutes.
- Members-only content: a block whose text, image and button only members of the chosen tiers see; everyone else sees an invitation to join. The content is never sent to visitors' browsers, so it can't be revealed by viewing the page source.
- Members-only pages: keep a page unpublished in Shopify and Tessetto shows it at your store's /apps/members/ address to signed-in members only. Links to files on such a page are only shown to members, but Shopify file links are public to anyone who has the address, so don't use it to deliver paid files.
- Monthly store credit (Pro): on each paid renewal (monthly for yearly members), Tessetto adds Shopify store credit that expires on the paid-through date. Shopify's limits apply: store credit is spent at a signed-in checkout and can't pay the membership fee itself. Turning it on asks Shopify for one more permission.

Emails to members
Tessetto sends six kinds of email about the member's own membership, in your store's name with your store's email address for replies, in the member's language (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Dutch): welcome (with the link to their membership page), yearly renewal reminder, prepaid term ending soon and ended, payment failed or action needed, cancellation confirmed, and price change notice. Each is sent once. Shopify also sends its own order confirmation and, for a failed payment, its own email to update the card.
Changing a price or perks
- Perks change for every member of the tier at once; the app shows how many members first.
- A new price applies to new members. To move existing members to it, choose so when you save: each member gets a notice email, and the new price applies from their first renewal at least 30 days after that email.
Members' own page
In your store's customer account, each member sees their membership with its tier, status, perks, paid-through date, next charge and the card on file, and can Change payment method, Cancel (with what ends and when, before they confirm) or Renew a prepaid membership. The order confirmation page of a membership order has a Manage your membership link to the same page.
Point of sale
Memberships sold at your point of sale start like online ones. Member prices and free shipping at the point of sale: PLACEHOLDER (written from the step 10 test of Shopify's discount Functions at POS).
Plans and billing
- Starter and Pro are billed by Shopify on your Shopify invoice. Any number of members; no fees on your sales or on member payments, and no charge per member.
- Starter has one program with up to 3 tiers; Pro has up to 10 programs with up to 10 tiers each, plus store credit, fixed end dates, comp memberships and member import. At a limit, the app says so; nothing stops working and nothing extra is charged.
- Each store gets one free trial; reinstalling continues the same trial.
- To cancel, use the Plan page, or uninstall the app (Settings, Apps, Tessetto, Uninstall). Shopify stops billing at once.
- Without an active plan, renewals are not billed and new members can't join (the plan picker says memberships are not available right now), but memberships still end on their paid-through date. When you choose a plan again, billing resumes at each member's next renewal; missed renewals are skipped, never charged later.
Staff
Tessetto works with your store's own connection to Shopify, so every staff member you allow to use it (Settings > Users in your Shopify admin) sees and changes the same programs, members and settings. Changes made by a staff member show their first name in the member's activity log.
Frequently asked questions
Can people who aren't members still see members-only products? Yes, the product page is visible, but only members can buy it: Shopify's checkout stops everyone else. You can hide the product from your store's search and from search engines, and keep it out of your menus.
What happens when a member's card fails? Tessetto retries on the schedule in Settings and emails the member. They keep access during the grace period; after the last retry the membership ends and the perks stop by themselves.
Do I need Shopify Flow or another app to remove tags? No. Tessetto removes the tags when the membership ends. It also offers Flow triggers (membership started, ended, renewed and payment failed) if you want to do more.
Does it work with my email marketing app? Members carry their member tags in Shopify, which email apps such as Klaviyo already read, so you can build member lists there. Tessetto holds no keys for other apps.
Can I move members from another membership app? On Pro, import them from a CSV file as prepaid or comp memberships with an end date. Moving recurring members with their saved cards is not possible in this version.
Do members' perks stop if my trial or plan ends? No perks are switched off early: memberships keep running to their paid-through date. Renewals and new sign-ups pause until you choose a plan.
When something looks wrong
- Open the member's page and read the activity log: it says what changed, when and why.
- Open Help in the app and copy the summary for support.
- Email support@nolarine.com with the summary and what you expected to happen. A named person replies within one business day (the same business day on Pro).
Uninstalling
Open Before you uninstall first. When you uninstall, Tessetto's blocks, member prices, the checkout lock, the members' page and the members-only pages go with it. What stays in your store: member tags, the membership product and members-only products, which anyone can then buy. Use Remove all member tags, Set members-only products to draft and Set the membership product to draft before uninstalling if you don't want them left behind. Shopify cancels the members' recurring memberships 48 hours after you uninstall, so they are not charged again. Uninstalling also ends your access to the app and cancels your plan at once (Shopify stops billing). If you want our records, export your members from the Members page first. 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify tells us to delete your store's data, and we do, within 30 days.
Accessibility
The admin uses Shopify's own components, and the storefront blocks use your theme's fonts and colours. We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on the admin pages, the storefront blocks, the members' page and this website (last checked PLACEHOLDER date of the axe and keyboard check on the live app). Known limits: right-to-left languages are not supported, and the admin has not been tested with a screen reader. If something doesn't work for you or your members with assistive technology, email support@nolarine.com: we treat it as a bug.
